Ahh, as the holidays approach, kids will spend more time at home, and art lovers/hustlers will head to Miami for Art Basel. During this special season, you may require something extra to occupy your wild children or your inner idle child. You may want to look at weird art and speculate over which banana will sell for $120,000.

I got you.

*Also, try to guess without looking at the captions which piece of art on this list sold for $4.3 million dollars.

And so with ends comes beginnings
“And so with ends comes beginnings” by Miami artist, Antonia Wright.

And don’t get me wrong, I love art. Real artists are worth every bitcoin when their work is meaningful. I’ll be at Art Basel too, a commoner amongst the beautiful people, like a lowly lost sprinkle swirling in the splash pool at the Ice Cream Museum.

So, here is my alphabetical guide to creating cheap art that could one day be worth a small fortune. Most of these art supplies can be found around your house, or at the dollar store, with the exception of the van, but you can always make friends with a dude with a van...

Writers: Substitute the word “art” for “stories” and write a story from the image or thing.

A

Make art from APPLES.

example
“Them Apples” by Anri Sala, was exhibited at Art Basel in 2017. Them Apples is a large-scale drawing project. 44 drawings of individual apples from which a bite has been taken are arranged on the wall as notes on an imaginary score of the German national anthem. The bites, like fingerprints, are unique and belong to refugees the artist invited to participate.

Did you make it this far?

Well, I hope you enjoyed this art or writing inspiration. We will see what sells at this year’s Miami Beach Art Basel soon, and one day, it could be you cashing that check. But before that, you can use this guide to make art with your kids.

Or better yet, make art yourself for the joy of it.

What will you make?

Can art save the world? Can the world save art?

Be sure to let us know if you buy any million dollar bananas while you’re at Art Basel.
